The members of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo‘s Medicaid task force were full of praise last week for the deal on Medicaid cuts they presented to Mr. Cuomo.
But not everyone is happy, thanks to a provision tucked in the recommendations that would sharply limit medical malpractice lawsuits, a top priority of the state’s hospital industry but a stance fiercely opposed by trial lawyers and patient advocates. The proposal would cap patients’ noneconomic damages at $250,000, among other changes.
